If you are feeling go go go go go, overwhelmed, trouble fitting it all in, can’t catch your breath, never get to the end of the to do list – then know this primal sister girlfriend: CONGRATULATIONS YOU ARE NORMAL.

We, as a species have never been as stressed as we are today.

We all know stress is a killer but did you know that stress is an evolutionary ‘eject button’?  A survival of the fitness thing, only the weakest in the species got stressed and therefore died out.  Maybe they were bad tribeswomen, bad lovers, bad gatherers, whatever it was to cause stress, they died off.  These days however, the fittest of the species are the most stressed!  Oh no!

Chimps groom each other in pecking order, the chimp at the bottom of the pecking order doesn’t get groomed, doesn’t get the oxytoxin, serotonin and endorphins from relaxing.

From a primal perspective stress is an eject button.

If you are stressed this is your wake up call to tweak your life a bit.

Rest and recuperation are such important parts of the life cycle and yet we never make time for them.  I am here to give you permission to rest – it is essential.  Us busy women feel like we can only rest when we sleep but this can be counter productive.

Slow life down to get more out of life – sounds counter intuitive but give it a go and see what unfolds!

1. Parkinson’s Law

My Mam told me this ages ago when I was a little girl.

Can you relate to these examples: you have all day off.  You can please yourself.  You might bake something. Or dye your hair but you definitely need to clean the bathroom. You have all day – you do nothing! You feel crap!

OR….

You have a friend coming over for a coffee.  She is arriving in ten minutes.  In that ten minutes your house gets the best clean it has done in months and looks amazing!

You know what I am on about!

The key to leverage Parkinson’s Law in your life is to schedule in the things that YOU NEED to show up as the best version of you (sounds boring but trust me) so your time to make amazing food, time to move your body, time to take a nap, time to see your friend every week.

I don’t know about you, but I have wasted too many weeks waiting for the weekend or wishing the day away so I could sit down. Wishing my life away!  The reality is all we have is today!  Who knows what is around the corner?  Why not make today a wonderful experience for you, give you anchors, to help you keep your shit together to ride the rollercoaster of life – right?

And then, set time limits for the tasks you need to do.  Example: I need to clean the bathroom and will have that done in 30 mins.

2. Set Boundaries

Boundaries in every aspect of your life, like you non negotiables that YOU need to show up as the best version of you but also things like social media exposure, TV exposure, how much time you spend with the in laws, how much time you do for the school, how many social things you say yes to.

What are your values?  What is most important to you? You can be all the things.  Focus on what your strengths are. It’s OK to say no.

Boundaries don’t make you a bitch.

3. Give up being a People Pleaser

Stop giving a shit about what other people think about you.

What people think about you is none of your business. 

This one takes practice, all of this is a daily practice.

YOU are the most important person in your life.
