Helen Marshall selected as a finalist for two National Awards
Helen Marshall of Primal Alternative has been selected as a finalist for the 2018 AusMumpreneur Awards in the Making a Difference People’s Choice and Product Innovation Categories.
The AusMumpreneur Awards presented by The AusMumpreneur Network celebrate and recognize Australian Mums in business achieving outstanding success in areas such as business excellence, product development, customer service and digital innovation. The awards are designed to recognize the growing number of women who successfully balance motherhood and business in a way that suits their life and family.
Faced with a long list of debilitating digestive & mental health issues, Helen Marshall turned to a Primal lifestyle in a desperate attempt to reset her health. A primal lifestyle includes eating local, seasonal spray free veggies, grass fed or wild caught protein and emphasizes time in nature, sleep, sunshine, community and stress management.
Amazed with how her health and life transformed JUST by changing the foods she ate, Helen qualified as a Primal Health Coach as she felt called to help other women realise that their health problems were not their fault and they were not alone.
But she got kick back. Preparing everything from scratch was hard work and people were too busy.
And so, using her Thermomix Helen created a range of grain free breads, pizza bases, cookies and gellies to sell at her community markets and local shops to make choosing this lifestyle easier for her community.
The feedback was that Primal Alternative was LIFE CHANGING. Primal Alternative made grain free easy and people didn’t need to ‘fall off the wagon’just because they fancied, hot butter Fruit Toast, Pizza Night or a Choc Chip Cookie with their cuppa.
The range includes grain free, dairy free, egg free, refined sugar free versions of the foods we love including low carb options.
She wanted to bring the range to the whole of Australia, but the idea of a factory didn’t ‘light her up’. So, Helen franchised her business model. This empowers other Mums who love to bake and who have a passion for clean living, to run a business from home.
Helen has created a national brand of local producers, which she calls Primalistas – think sisterhood! This is a trail blazing grass roots community centric way of working that has never been seen before.
“Being selected as a finalist means so much to me because I love to make clean living a delicious deprivation free experience and I absolutely love empowering women to step into their own business with the support of the Primalista Community.”
Business is not always easy and Primal Alternative has overcome challenges but has also seen great success including growing to over 50 Primalistas in 18 months, launching an online shop and becoming an exclusive producer of Quirky Cooking’s Grain-Free Pastry.
It can be challenging to run a successful business whilst raising a family and Helen gives this advice for others thinking about starting their own enterprise. ” Take a leap of faith and do it! Don’t waste your life in a soul sucking job, feeling like you are missing out on time with your family. Be prepared to bust through your limiting self-beliefs and create a life you truly love. Find your tribe! This bumpy ride is made much easier with the support of a community to hold you accountable, have a vent to and to of course, celebrate success with you.”
