Recipe: Noritos
Apr 29, 2020What may seem like a harmless corn chip is actually a chemical shiz storm and best avoided if you want to thrive.
Popular brand Doritos create their products in the laboratory and pair flavour combinations together to make their product literally addictive. Which is – all kinds of wrong, don’t you think? So if you have had trouble stopping at one – it’s not your fault, they have been developed to be more-ish and trigger over consumption which can lead to chronic disease and obesity. Nice one big food companies.
So what do Doritos add to the chip to make them addictive? Acids and MSG. There are two acids – lactic and citric, which get the saliva flowing and triggers the impulse to eat. Another ingredient, buttermilk, delivers even more lactic acid. Dorito dust has even more impact if you lick it right from your fingertips without the chip to dilute it. Most of Doritos flavour comes not from real food plant bases spices, but from Mono-sodium glutamate (MSG), salt, and sugar, a “trifecta” that can cause harm to your body.
When I was researching which additives are included in the Doritos range I found a list of over FORTY TWO different additives. Let that sink in 42! Not all in the one product, but still, that is a lot. The plainer the chip you get, the less additives are in there, but still – wouldn’t you rather avoid them altogether?
Given that food additives can cause digestive, nervous, respiratory and skin disorders – they are best left in the laboratory. I think that is enough said and we haven’t even touched on the fact that the corn used in the chips will likely be genetically modified and sprayed with poison or that the oil they are cooked in is inflammatory.
Shame though right cos Doritos are FUN! They are crunchy, spicy and totally yum. Everyone loves them.
